Counseling Center
Welcome to the Counseling Center
We support students and families throughout the school year in dealing with personal and social issues, academic issues, and supporting career interest development. We welcome collaboration with parents and guardians, and encourage you to reach out to your child's school counselor if you would like to discuss any concerns. Please feel free to contact us via phone or email. Some of the supports that we can provide are:
• Individual, brief counseling in a confidential setting
• Small group counseling through Warrior Circle Groups, based on need
• Mediation between peers, when appropriate, for social concerns
• Participation in meetings regarding student concerns (for example, meetings between parents and team teachers)
• Aiding new students in their transition to GAMS
• Monitoring of students’ academic progress throughout the school year
• Referrals to school and community agencies and resources, including mental health resources and other community supports
• Coordinating the 504 process for identified students
• Coordination of the building’s Student Assistance Program (SAP) team, which provides support for students that are identified as at-risk
• Participation in Student Attendance Improvement Plan meetings, to problem-solve issues related to school attendance
• Classroom lessons about career in the area of career development, using the Smart Futures tools
